Planning 101: Restaurants & Food

Now, it's time to talk restaurants/food at Disney World. For some people, this is the highlight of their vacations. For others its merely a necessity. This post will mostly be the basics.

One thing I won't be covering is the Dining Plan. I have never done it so don't feel qualified to talk about it. But there are tons of resources out there if you want more information.

There are a lot of dining options in Disney World. Your main two are table service and quick service restuarants. The table service will typically require a reservation and have more specialized cuisine. The quick service is more like a fast food restaurant. And oftentimes, they'll have the same foods-mostly hamburgers and chicken nuggets. Of course there are always exceptions.

If you want more information on specific restaurants I suggest checking out places like WDW Info and Touring Plans. They work to have up-to-date pictures, reviews, and menus.

Your other food option is snack carts. A lot of them have popcorn of Mickey ice cream bars. Some will have more unique or specialized items like frozen jungle juice, cheese-filled pretzels, etc. These are nice because it feels like you're in on a secret.

For your table service restaurants, you'll want a reservation. They can be made 180 days out from your trip and make it as early as possible. That may seem extreme, but it can be hard to get in especially for the more popular restuarants. A credit card is needed to guarantee your reservation and you will be charged a fee if you don't show up without cancelling within a set period of time.

Something that's started recently is mobile ordering. For several quick service restaurants you can order and pay on your phone and then just go in and pick up your meal. This is a very new feature so I haven't used it yet, but I'm excited to try it out. I'll try to do a post about it after my trip in October.

Thanks for reading!
Holly
